GASTAL, Susana and OSMAINSCHI, Ramon. Ciudades globales: Rankings y posibilidades para el turismo. Estud. perspect. tur. [online]. 2017, vol.26, n.2, pp.419-440. ISSN 1851-1732.
Twentieth century was marked by territorial, politics and economic expansion of cities, leading to what has been known as global city, associated to economic and technological globalization. Castells (1999) presents global city as a process about flows and interconnections rather than as fixed in territory. Different indexes have been used in studies, measurement and comparison of global cities. This research aims to develop a global city ranking. Methodologically, it's an exploratory research, with 12 reports treated as primary documents. At the end, this article presents an overall ranking of the cities that present themselves as more relevant to attracting talent, finance and tourists and be treated as global cities. Global indexes can be tools that not just compare cities, but also help to point city's highlights and weaknesses.
