The objective of this article is to analyze the territorial configuration, the performance of the actors and the force fields in a tourist destination of second residence, Matinhos, on the coast of Paraná (Brazil), whose conformation in this profile dates back to the first decades of the 20th century. An exploratory and descriptive case study was carried out, following the protocols of Yin (2010). This is a qualitative research, for which documents commentary, content analysis and oral history were adopted as methodological procedures. The sources used were legal documents and minutes of meetings, as well as interviews with key actors. The whole research direction was guided by the research problem related to the conflicts and the territorial strategies designed by the actors in tourist destinations of second residence, considering the relational perspective of territorial approach. In terms of conclusion, it was identified that, at the same time that the second residence unified and defined the destination profile, it raised conflicts of interests of the actors (public power, private sector and environmental entities), that determined the historical process of the definition of the territory.
