Abstract

ELIZALDE, Elsa Elena. Standards for the Universidad de Buenos Aires Libraries System. Inf. cult. soc. [online]. 2009, n.20, pp.111-116. ISSN 1514-8327.

The General Coordination of the Sistema de Bibliotecas y de Información- SISBI- of the Universidad de Buenos Aires proposed the creation of a Work Group for the study and definition of the requirements for a proper provision level of all libraries services. Those external standards will complement and update the «Guidelines for a Library Policy of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (Resolution N° 222/94)».  The aim of the whole criteria that represent the Standards for the UBA Libraries System is that they have a basic tool that allow them to take decisions on planning and administration of library services. Separately, it is expected that each Library defines its internal standards of time, quality, quantity, and costs that reflect the aims and objectives of each particular Academic Unit. Those Standards cover:  Organizational aspects of the Academic Library and General Principles of the SISBI; Building and Technological Infrastructure; Human Resources; Services and/or products; Collection development; Technical Processes; Budget; Quality and Innovation Evaluation and Management; Prevention and Conservation; etc.

Keywords : Libraries Standards; Academic libraries; Library policy; Library administration.
