Abstract

PATALANO, Mercedes. Discursive perspective of the research in Library and Information Science. Inf. cult. soc. [online]. 2015, n.33, pp.11-28. ISSN 1851-1740.

Research practices are addressed in this paper, based on the analysis of discourse expressed in the presentations and conclusions of two major events in the field of Library and Information Science. Both events reflect the discursive discussions about setting up and maturity of the Library and Information Science in recent decades. The core of the discussion focuses on the inclusion of research and training, with the very powerful issue of visibility within the field of Library and Information Science. As a result of the discussions at the meetings of headmasters and teachers of Mercosur and the Meetings of Education and Research in Latin America and the Caribbean, the most urgent weaknesses of the region as curricula, postgraduate and research are identified. It concludes by highlighting that the most significant step has already been taken from the recognition of a necessary change to research practices that integrate: critical thinking, theory, interdisciplines, social and cultural context, and the need for joint knowledge, in order not to become neutralised because of technology reason.

Keywords : Research practices; Library and Information Science; Discourse analysis; Latin America.
