Abstract

TENORIO SEPULVEDA, Gloria Concepción; MARTINEZ REYES, Magally  and  SOBERANES MARTIN, Anabelem. Open access repositories in higher education institutions in Mexico, an initial review using the SCOT methodology. Inf. cult. soc. [online]. 2019, n.40, pp.117-130. ISSN 1514-8327.

The aim of this article is to present an overview of the open access repositories of Higher Education Institutions in Mexico. An analysis of eleven repositories through the first phase of the SCOT methodology was carried out, highlighting, on one hand, the advantages of including academic production in this type of repositories and, on the other hand, the challenges that this may have for the authors at a personal level, and fot the institutions by those responsible for them. Elements of discussion are provided for the academic and scientific community that decides to get involved in this topic. The repositories of the Mexican IES registered with the largest number of OpenDOAR (one of the most widely accepted directories worldwide) resources are analyzed and it is concluded that these repositories are an interesting alternative for the visibility of resources, which maintains a growing trend in quantity and quality of resources housed in the open access repositories, it is also important to evidence and implement policies and procedures that ensure their quality and train the personnel involved in the maintenance of the repository, since it requires a holistic work team.
