Resumen

LATTAR, Elsa; SOLIS, Stella Maris; AVANZA, María M.  y  FERRUCCI, María Silvia. Morpho-anatomical studies of the floral and extrafloral nectaries of Triumfetta rhomboidea (Malvaceae, Grewioideae). Bol. Soc. Argent. Bot. [online]. 2009, vol.44, n.1-2, pp.33-41. ISSN 1851-2372.

The morpho-anatomy of the floral and extrafloral trichomatic nectaries of Triumfetta rhomboidea Jacq. was studied by light and scanning electron microscope. Five nectariferous glands are located on the androgynophore, whereas extrafloral nectaries are on the margins at the base of the leaf and on the margins of the bract. The differences observed between them are the size and shape of the epidermal basal cells, the number of the foot and the head cells of the glandular trichomes, the idioblasts of the secretor parenchyma and the vascular tissue which innervates the nectaries. The analysis of variance showed significant differences among floral and extrafloral nectaries in the following variables: head length and diameter, foot length and width, and periclinal wall of basal cell. These results were congruent with the principal component analysis (PCA). On the head length and periclinal wall of basal cell the three types of nectaries can be distinguished, whereas head diameter, foot length and width only diferenciated floral to extrafloral nectaries. The results of this paper are discussed in relation to previous information about the genus.

Palabras clave : Triumfetta rhomboidea; Floral nectary; Extrafloral nectaries; Secretory trichomes; Principal component analysis (PCA).
