Abstract

CARDINALI, Francisco Jose; THEVENON, Mario Alberto  and  ARIAS, Mónica Esther. Morphoanatomical study of seed and lipid and protein reserves in cotyledonal tissues of Cuphea glutinosa (Lythraceae). Bol. Soc. Argent. Bot. [online]. 2010, vol.45, n.1-2, pp.47-55. ISSN 1851-2372.

The objective of the present work was to study the size and distribution of lipid and protein bodies in Cuphea glutinosa mature seeds collected in Sierra de los Padres, Tandilia system hills, Buenos Aires, Argentine. The protein bodies' size was variable in the different cotyledonal tissues, while the lipid bodies were largely uniform. Protein storage was observed mainly in the mesophyll tissues, although the epidermis also showed protein bodies of small size and in a low number. Lipid reserves were present in the three tissues, but around 50% was found in the cotyledonal epidermis while the rest was located in both parenchymas. This means that at the moment of moving the cotyledonal reserves, the three tissues were strongly involved providing an adequate amount of energy during germination.
