Abstract

KELLER, Héctor A. La Lanza del serpentario", origen mítico de Xylopia brasiliensis (Annonaceae), una versión de los Guaraníes Ava Chiripa de Misiones. Bol. Soc. Argent. Bot. [online]. 2013, vol.48, n.2. ISSN 1851-2372.

"The lance of snake bird", mythical origin of Xylopia brasilienis (Annonaceae), a version of guaranis Ava Chiripa from Misiones (Argentina). A Guaraní tale on the origin of the Xylopia brasiliensis tree is documented and translated. The meaningful attributes that seem to have inspired the myth are associated with the fgure of a bird that hunts snakes and also with the possible use of the stems of this tree as harpoon shafts or lances by the ancient guarani peoples.
