Abstract

The hair follicle is a complex structure that presents diverse morphologicaland immunological characteristics that allow the proper functioning of the unit.In some diseases as alopecia areata these mechanisms of immune regulation are disrupted by external factorssuch as emotional stress preventing the growth of the hair shaft. The objective of this review is to recognize the specific immunobiological mechanisms of the hair follicle, analyzing the role played by the loss of immunoprivilege and emotional stress in the development of alopecia areata.
