Abstract

ROMERO, Eduardo R. et al. Emergence and early growth of TUCCP 77-42 plant cane at different plantation times. Rev. ind. agríc. Tucumán [online]. 2005, vol.82, n.1-2, pp.37-44. ISSN 1851-3018.

The effects of planting date on emergence and initial growth of TUCCP 77-42 plant cane under field conditions and without water limitations were evaluated. The information derived from the evaluation of 10 successive plantation dates (plant cane) carried out under field conditions between June and November (autumn - winter and spring) under ideal managing conditions in a subtropical region (Las Talitas, Tucumán, Argentina; 26º 48' South - 65º 12' West). The analysis showed that planting time constitutes the major managing factor influencing emergence dynamics, affecting emergence final percentage, rate and, especially, duration. It also caused important modifications in stem elongation and leaf appearance rates, as well as in the time needed to reach 50% of height to the end of emergence and the appearance of new green ligulated leaves per primary stem, in both substadiums of early leaf development. On the other hand, planting date affected neither the final height of primary stalks, nor the number of green ligulated leaves per primary stalk at the end of emergence. The latter variable, which was almost constant with an average of 2,5 green leaves per primary stem, regardless of planting date, constitutes a phenological indicator of emergence ending.
