DIGONZELLI, Patricia A. et al. Seedcane production in Registered Nurseries obtained through micropropagation and hot water treatment of three sugarcane cultivars. Rev. ind. agríc. Tucumán [online]. 2006, vol.83, n.1-2, pp.9-17. ISSN 1851-3018.

Seedcane yield components in sugarcane Registered Nurseries obtained through micropropagation and hot water treatment (50ºC, 2 h) were evaluated, considering three varieties (LCP 85-384, CP 65-357 and CP 48-103) and three plantation dates (May, August and October). The micropropagated and hot-water-treated seedcane was free from ratoon stunting disease (RSD) (Leifsonia xyli subsp. xyli) and leaf scald (Xanthomonas albilineans). A completely randomized factorial experimental design (3x3x2), with three replications, was used. The factors considered were: plantation date (three levels), variety (three levels) and seedcane origin (two levels). Each plot consisted of five three-meter-long rows, and the three central rows were evaluated. During harvest in the nursery, all the stalks in each plot were counted, and their height up to TVD leaf was measured. In a sample of 45 stalks per plot, stalk weight and bud number per stalk were determined. With these values, bud number per row and hectare were calculated. Seedcane origin affected stalk number and height, as well as bud number per stalk, row and hectare. Plantation date and variety also influenced seedcane yield components. Micropropagated seedcane gave origin to a larger number of stalks, which were taller and exhibited a larger number of buds. Due to that, micropropagated seedcane allowed enlarging the surface that can be planted with material of one hectare of a nursery, by a percentage between 8% and 23%. The differences between micropropagated and hot-watertreated seedcane varied according to cultivar and plantation date.
