The aim of this paper is to analyze different systems for calculating the recirculation of non-sugars in sugar boiling. This type of analysis becomes essential when selecting sugar boiling systems, as recirculation of non-sugars has a negative impact on sugar quality and energy efficiency in simultaneous sugar-alcohol production. An approximate traditional method was improved by means of advanced numerical systems, so as to obtain an accurate and versatile tool for evaluating recirculation. The proposed method is easy to apply and enables comparison among different boiling systems, regardless of the number of strikes.
