Resumen

VIZGARRA, Oscar N.; MAMANI GONZALES, Silvana Y.; ESPECHE, Clara M.  y  PLOPER, L. Daniel. Evaluation of lines to obtain new cultivars of carioca type beans for Northwest Argentina. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2016, vol.93, n.1, pp.1-7. ISSN 1851-3018.

The edible bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is an important regional crop of North Western Argentina. The most cultivated ones are black and white beans. In the late 1990s, researchers at Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC) began working on bean of non-traditional colors as part of an effort to diversify production and increase the chances of marketing beans. The objective of this paper is to report the evaluation of carioca type beans in three environments of North Western Argentina, in order to identify new cultivars with high yields, resistance to diseases, and adaptation to different agroecological conditions. Eight advanced lines and two control varieties of carioca type beans were evaluated in Yield Comparative Test, in the locations of San Agustin, Tucuman; Los Altos, Catamarca and Pozo Hondo, Santiago del Estero. In every trial, a randomized complete block design was applied. Analysis of variance for grain production of the genotypes evaluated in trials for five years in the three locations was made. The comparison of means was performed by Duncan test (p <0.05). Also, sanitary behavior and adaptation of genotypes were evaluated. The effects of location, year and variety were highly significant as all interactions and most of the variability was explained by the first two variables. The highest yields were obtained in the locations of Los Altos and Pozo Hondo, yields of 2008 and 2011 were highlighted. The variety control, Carioca Comun had one of the highest yields. All genotypes had intermediate values for sanitary behavior and adaptation.

Palabras clave : Phaseolus vulgaris; yield; sanitary behavior; adaptation.
