SANZANO, G. Agustín et al. Analysis of factors determining productivity index soil cultivated with sugar cane in Tucumán- Argentina. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2018, vol.95, n.1, pp.35-42. ISSN 1851-3018.

In the province of Tucumán, sugarcane is cultivated at different agroecological regions wich present strong climatic and edaphic variability that influence crop yields. Knowledge of soil productivity indices (IP) and the factors that determine them may be useful tools for recommending specific management practices for each particular situation. IP of 2550 georeferenced sites were estimated in four sugarcane regions or subregions of Tucumán (Argentina) and the incidence of each factor conditioning productivity was analyzed. Soil samples were taken to 0.9 m deph, physical and chemical analytical determinations were made and the association between edaphic variables and their influence on IP were established using principal component analysis method (Biplot). Results showed that 63% and 78% of soils from Pedemonte and Chacopampeana Plain regions, respectively, had high IP (greater than 69). At the western Depressed Plain sub-region, 53% of IP were middle range (55-69) and at the eastern subregion 58% were low and very low IP (40-54 and below 39, respectively). High PI values in Pedemonte region were influenced by soil organic matter content, and less significantly by silt and clay content. At the Chacopampeana Plain region the high IP values obtained were determinated by high soil silt content. At the western Depressed Plain subregion, the low IP values obtained were mainly explained by soil pH and/or by the calcium carbonate soil content, while in the eastern sub-region, soil electrical conductivity added to these two factors, negatively associated with productivity.
