MEDINA, María M. et al. Effect of planting depth on the emergency dynamic of three sweet sorghum hybrids. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2021, vol.98, n.1, pp.55-60. ISSN 1851-3018.
The emergence and establishment of sorghum is a critical stage in the productive cycle of this crop. Due to the small size of the seed, deep seeding should be avoided in order to obtain a good uniformity of the crop. Several researchers have found differences in the emergence between sorghum genotypes. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of planting depth on the dynamics of the emergence of seedlings of three sweet sorghum hybrids. The tested hybrids were Argensil 165 Bio, Adv 2010 and AMF 543. The planting depths were: 2, 4 and 7 cm. The experimental design was completely randomized with five replications. Emergence evaluations were done daily, from planting until the tenth day, when the stabilization occurred. Planting depth significantly influenced the emergence of the seedlings and the establishment of the studied hybrids. Emergence showed differences between the evaluated genotypes. A planting depth deeper than 4 cm caused a reduction in the emergence and a delay in all genotypes although differences in intensity were registered. Argensil 165 Bio emerged adequately between 2 and 4 cm, but does not tolerated depths deeper. AMF 543 started its emergence earlier in the three depths evaluated. Adv 2010 reached the highest final percentage of seedlings emerged in all three depths.
