DEVANI, Mario R. et al. Tukuy RR, new soybean variety for northwest Argentina. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2021, vol.98, n.2, pp.15-19. ISSN 1851-3018.
In the last 50 years, world soybean production has increased tenfold, from 27 to 269 million tons, of which approximately 90% is produced only in six countries: Brazil, United States, Argentina, China, India and Paraguay. Between 1980 and 2019, soybean cultivation in Argentina expanded from 2 million to 17.7 million hectares. As a consequence, this product and its derivatives became the main export source of the country. This expansion is mainly attributed to the increase in both the planted area and in the yields. Since the supply of land with agricultural potential tends to be rigid in the short term, the key is to increase crop productivity. Therefore, it is essential to obtain cultivars adapted to different regions that allow increasing yields, and in this sense, plant breeding is the most valuable strategy for increasing productivity in a sustainable and ecologically balanced way. The Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC) has been working continuously on its project to obtain local varieties, and in this way Tukuy RR has been created. The new variety released by the EEAOC belong to the maturity group VII and has undetermined growth habit, also incorporates the resistance gene to glyphosate, and achieves excellent performance potentials.
