SARAY NUNEZ GONZALEZ, C.; GONZALEZ PEREZ, C. M.  y  QUINTERO SILVEIRO, C. A.. Analysis of the rheological behaviour of the asphaltic mastic obtained from pine's resin. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2011, vol.19, n.1, pp.14-23. ISSN 1851-3026.

ABSTRACT In Cuba, the design of each construction includes the cover sealing system; although this system reflects in a very clear and precise way the use of mastiques for waterproof sealing, it has been identified that due to stability problems along its production a considerable percentage of these buildings are built with their joints unsealed. Such a situation causes that 61% of these buildings nationwide present leak problems. To solve this problem, many mastiques have been obtained from different components such as oxidized-asphalt, turpentine, synthetic rubber, and organic solvents among others. Today the mastic produced is not only  inadequate to meet the present demand but also offered with quality problems like low ductility, high tendency to crystallize  and the presence of organic solvents in its composition, which altogether reduce the waterproofing system durability. To overcome these drawbacks using the resin from the natural pine as the main component of the sealing mastic was the core idea in the attempt to obtain a product of asphalt mastic able to compete as to its rheological properties with those commercialized in the country. This study starts out with the chemical analysis of the main components of the mastic; then the various potential combinations are designed and characterized; eventually the mastic that best satisfied the requirements and norms established for this kind of products is obtained and its rheological properties evaluated.
