The SUMIN index was applied to identify the most endangered wildlife fauna of Santiago del Estero. Using data from the literature were analyzed 27 species that have some degree of threat. Six species (4 mammals and 2 birds) were identified as deserving being declared as provincial natural monuments in order to contribute for the strengthening of the protecting legal instruments of these species.
