Resumen

SALTO, C. S.; GARCIA, M. A.  y  HARRAND, L.. The influence of different substrata and containers on morphological attributes of two species of Prosopis seedlings. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2013, vol.21, n.2, pp.90-102. ISSN 1851-3026.

The nursery performance of Prosopis alba and P. nigra as a function of different substrates (i.e. according to their physical properties in terms of use) and container types was evaluated. Five types of substrata were tested: soil (T); composted pine bark (CP); composted pine bark and soil (TCP); pine bark composted with perlite and vermiculite (CPPV); perlite and vermiculite (PV). As containers, 90 cm3 multi-cell trays and 100 cm3 individual cells were used. The physical properties determined were: total porosity (PT), water retention (RA) and aeration porosity (PA). In the individual cells, the highest PT was observed on PV while in the multi-cell trays was on CP. PA was higher in CPPV in both containers while RA values were higher on T in cells and on TCP in multi-cell trays. Seedling collar diameter and total height were the variables analyzed at the nursery. Statistically significant differences in these variables were found for both species and for the two types of containers. The best growth in both diameter and total height of the "algarrobo blanco" and "algarrobo negro" seedlingswere found in the T, CP and CPPV substrates. The size of the container had influence on the growth of the seedlings.
