SANCHEZ UGALDE, R.; LUDUENA, M. E.; SCHIMPF, R. y RODRIGUEZ, C. S.. Demand behavior for wood products. State of the art in Santiago del Estero. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2020, vol.28, n.1, pp.62-71. Epub 01-Jun-2020. ISSN 0328-0543.
Information on the demand for wood products is scarce, so it is thought that this research can provide useful information for decision-making in the forestry sector. The objective of this paper was to analyze the behavior of the final consumer of wood products (except firewood and coal) from Santiago del Estero by exploring their behavior, opinions and preferences. A survey was conducted among 301 consumers from different locations in Santiago del Estero: Capital City, La Banda, Fernández, Loreto, Monte Quemado and Campo Gallo. The results obtained indicated that the demand for furniture and openings concentrates high percentage of the total consumption of wood products. Consumers tend notoriously to replace solid wood furniture with other cheaper and low-maintenance materials such as melamine. Pinewood was presented as highly demanded for different products, such as tables, openings and shelves, not for furniture. Durability was the most sought attribute in the product. The willingness to pay a “plus” for wood from a sustainable forest did not occur in a generalized way.
Palabras clave : furniture and wood products; consumption.
