Abstract

SOLANAS, Facundo. Estado, profesionalización, diplomáticos de carrera y embajadores políticos en la Argentina de las últimas tres décadas: State, professionalization, career diplomats and "political ambassadors" in Argentina of the last three decades. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.1, pp.30-41. ISSN 1851-3123.

We analyze the intricate intersection between one of the main actors of Argentine foreign policy: career diplomats with political power. Based on written and oral sources, we are interested in highlighting how these different actors are interlinked and articulated in order, to construct Argentina's international policies. Unlike other latitudes where the diplomatic corps responds to political power, but is in charge of carrying out foreign policy, in the Argentine case -as in other countries- the political power has officials appointed by it, the so-called political ambassadors , not belonging to the diplomatic corps, who hold the same position as ambassador and help define foreign policy. We explore and analyze the ways in which different devices from the diplomatic corps and political power are defined, modified and coexisted during the last three decades and that end up configuring the factory of Argentine international politics.

Keywords : State; Public policies; Diplomats; Politicians.
