Abstract

SALVATIERRA, Rita Gabriela. What the soybean left us in Santiago del Estero: General aspects between the years 2001 to 2010. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.1, pp.28-43. ISSN 1851-3123.

The agricultural model set up in the 1990s, together with the technological innovation of production, the devaluation and post-convertibility process that Argentina went through after 2001, allowed the rural business sector to expand into the extra-Pampas regions. In the province of Santiago del Estero, the increase in cultivated hectares of soybeans in the period 2001-2010 implies that the affected agricultural and livestock sector has an important participation in the provincial Geographic Gross Product (PBG) and consequently in the GDP. The expansion of soybeans, will bring about the modification of the environment as a fundamental element for the subsistence of rural families, causing a social and productive restructuring of the rural agricultural subsector. This paper has as specific analysis the economic factors -during the period 2000-2010- that contributed to the expansion of soybeans and the impact on the rural population of Santiago. Methodologically, this work bases its analysis on secondary data from various sources and results of research previously carried out by the author and other studies on the subject. It is necessary to indicate that this analysis does not have the objective of arriving at results, but rather it is proposed to describe and explain the relationship between the dimensions previously determined, therefore, conclusions are not raised but reflections that invite to deepen and surpass what has been analyzed.

Keywords : Agricultural expansion; Rural families; Productive system; Soya; Santiago del Estero.
