Resumen

COSTANTINI, Florencia. Intermediaries of the word: The merchants of the south of the province of Buenos Aires through their publications (Bahía Blanca, 1905-1910). Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.24, n.1, pp.18-33. ISSN 1851-3123.

The new approaches to socioeconomic history invite us to think about the formation of social and economic groups as processes that involve material and symbolic actions in a relational plot crossed by conflict and cooperation. With regard to the commercial sector, this article reconstructs the imagery displayed by a magazine of merchants in southern Buenos Aires Province in order to learn the representations built around their activities. From the approach of the editorial and advertising of La Revista del Centro Comercial (1905-1906) and its follow-up La Revista Comercial (1906-1910), both from Bahía Blanca, it seeks to establish into the consolidation of the merchant group of fruits of the country, cereals and importers from the suth of Buenos Aires. It comes to the conclusion that the magazines built representations that sought to consolidate their sectoral interests, among which the strengthening of the Bahia commercial plaza, the political role of intermediaries and the development of agricultural activities in the region stood out. However, the evolution of these representations was influenced by the itineraries of its owner director, Ricardo G. Ducós, as well as the economic circumstances that new positions implied.
