Abstract

MARZIONI, Sofía. With the magnifying glass on biographies: A theoretical-methodological proposal for the analysis of aging policies. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.24, n.5, pp.35-46. ISSN 1851-3123.

This work aims to nurture a line of research within the theories of social policy based on analyzing people's direct experience and personal story. In the context of aging Latin American societies and given the scarcity of research on old-age policies, we argue that analyzing the life trajectories and experiences of older people allows us to notice the results of state actions. At the same time, they constitute a source of information to strengthen diagnoses and guide future decisions in the matter. To support these assertions, we resorted to the comparative analysis of two life stories, products of a field work carried out towards the year 2019 in Santa Fe, Argentina. The cases mentioned show the incidence of old-age policies on the conditions and practices of extended reproduction of life and on the subjectivity of the elderly. Likewise, they enable us to advance in the recognition of the different "old ages" that coexist in the country, which are generally ignored by policymakers.

Keywords : Social policies; Old age; Life trajectories; Biographical experiences.
