This paper compares the methods of intervention used by Programa Orígenes in the Region of La Araucanía, being these the generation of: Community Development Plans, methodology applied in Phase I and Integrated Development Plan Phase II. To achieve the objectives, we compared both methods and intervied program officers who participated in both phases of it. It reviews both methodologies procedures, its contributions, relevance, strengths and weaknesses as tools for integrated development planning and strengthening the identity of the Mapuche people. The findings and conclusions are that public policies associated with these phases of Programa Orígenes have differential results. On one hand, it constitutes an innovative experience that focused mainly on strengthening participatory processes and the Mapuche territoriality. On the other hand, it has successfully developed processes that were related to the comprehensive and crosssectorial public institutions.
