In this paper I propose to investigate in shaping the field of cultural policy studies from the question of relations between ideas and policy production. Specifically, I wonder, how have crystallized into policy options the different meanings of culture? And under what paradigms have been studied? From the historical reconstruction of this process identifies those moments of change that allows build a general mapping of the matter and promptly reflect the problem that we have raised. So, I propose a journey that begins with the origins of this field of study. Then try to account for the displacement of the object from the anthropologization the concept of culture and the revitalization and cultural policy debate in the context of democratization. Then I will refer to the vocation of quantification that accompanied the neoliberal turn in the matter, and finally to raise the current paths that slips by discipline and field some questions for the future of it.Thus is expected to bring some ideas to think about forms of contact between academic discourse and public policy, specifically on those policies discursivities and criteria prevailing in the design and analysis of cultural policies.
