Abstract The 1840's were years filled with conflict in the river Plate, because the internal Argentinian Confederation disagreements were added to the conflicts with other nations that shared the region and the aggressive interferences between France and England. The comprehension of this period requires an analysis of everyone of the issues, and at the same time understand the influence of each of them in the other two. In-between, the use of navigable rivers in the area was a fundamental element for the consolidation of the formations of new nations and also, an indispensable requisite to confirm its sovereignty. This situation had a deciding trigger in 1844, when with the Brazilian government support, Paraguay emphatic reiteration its decision of being an independent nation, which produced a reaction in the Rosas government for considering that country as an Argentinian province. By then, the Brazilian government send a special mission to London and Paris to urge their governments to take a coercive measure against the Argentinian Government. The result was an Anglo-French float advancing through the Paraná and battling against the forces of the Argentinian Confederation in the battle of the "Vuelta de Obligado". Original documents of the involved nations allowed affirming that this conflict had a regional character, which was used for France and England to open a valuable commercial route.
