The most widespread criticisms to the theory of the autonomy of Juan Carlos Puig focus on its alleged link with a certain kind of realism, and also with the Cold War. This analysis aims to question the validity of this criticism. In order to think about these characterizations, we propose to analyze from the main tenets of realism of Hans Morgenthau, their correspondence with the thought of Juan Carlos Puig; and secondly, the impact of the Cold War on the theoretical design of this Argentine author.
