Measuring the rate of return on capital allows to understand the dynamics of the system. The relationship between the income and the capital advanced to achieve it is called rate of profit. In recent years, several authors made calculations on rate of profit. But so far, still prevail studies that focus on the overall profit rate of the economy as a whole, or the profit rate of the industrial or agricultural capital in general. Few studies on specific industries or individual capitals were developed. Not only the problem of the available sources, but also the methodological limitations of this type of calculation hinder the progress of these studies. We try to advance in measuring two branches of the same manufacturing complex: the auto parts and the automotive industries. We will focus on the period of consolidation of the automotive complex (in the early 50s to late 60s). We propose to calculate the profitability of individual capitals and then, on this basis, we try to calculate a rate of return "for branch" as a sum of these capitals. We use data from the balance sheets of the selected companies availables in the Bulletin of the Stock Exchange of Buenos Aires.
