Tobacco smoking is the largest preventable cause of morbid-mortality in third world countries, so it is considered a major problem in Public Health. The aim of this research was to evaluate the prevalence of cigarette smoking among Santojanni Hospital's staff. Anonymous and volunteer surveys were achieved from June through November 2011. The study design was observational, descriptive and analytical cross-sectional. The prevalence of tobbaco smoking at Hospital Santojanni staff was 28.86% without significant differences compared to CABA´s (Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires) general population (31.9%) (p=0.0966). On the contrary, this difference is significant if the prevalence of smoking in physicians (22.58%) was compared with the prevalence in the community (p = 0.0064).
