The morphology and chemical composition of the "anacahuita" (Cordia boissieri A. DC.) fruit was studied. We collected mature fruits in October, and November 2001, in the municipalities of Linares and Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, México. To the morphological study, 250 fruits of each site were used to measure length and width of fruit and seed and fresh weight of fruit and dry weight of seed. For chemical analysis we used the epicarp and mesocarp to determine humidity, ash, protein, fiber, lipids, carbohidrates, glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The fruits of Linares contained higher averagedimensions and weight than those of Monterrey. There were significant differences between sites for all the variables, except protein. Glucose of Linares's fruits was more than twice that of Monterrey's, while fructose was almost absent in Linares's and it reached 1% in Monterrey's. The sucrose content exhibited significant differences in both sites (5.9 and 4.26% for Linares and Monterrey, respectively).
