Abstract

FLORES-NAVEDA, A et al. Grain yield of sorghum lines planted under irrigation and limited irrigation in Texas. Phyton (B. Aires) [online]. 2012, vol.81, n.1, pp.113-121. ISSN 1851-5657.

The objective of this work was to evaluate, under irrigation and limited irrigation, the grain yield of 40 F7 sorghum lines (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) selected by tolerance to drought in the Facultad de Agronomía at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (FAUANL) in Marín, Nuevo León, Mexico. Studies were conducted in College Station, Texas in the cycle Autumn-Winter 2011, and in Lubbock, Texas in the growing cycle Spring-Summer 2011. The 40 sorghum lines were divided into two groups of 20 genotypes each to integrate two experiments, and five more experimental lines and a commercial hybrid as a control. Thereafter, 26 treatments were studied, with two replications. A randomized complete block design with covariance, the number of plants by plot as the independent covariable and the sorghum grain yield as the dependent variable, was used. The grain yield by plant was generally higher in College Station than in Lubbock. In both locations, under irrigation and limited irrigation, several F7 lines showed a significantly higher yield than the control hybrid and the parental lines that produced the F2 from which the lines were selected.
