MARTINA, Pablo F et al. Improvements in the thin layer chromatography technique for fecal biliary acids for the identification of felines. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2010, n.14, pp.49-52. ISSN 1851-7587.
The study of the biliary acids of feces as a non-destructive method was used to estimate population size and eating habits in carnivores. However, the classical techniques are time-consuming and require solvents which are highly toxic to humans. For this reason, we were looking for the optimization of the technique, by reducing time and evaluating new combinations of solvents. Nineteen feces samples of five species of felines and one species of canine were dried and powdered. Three combinations of solvent extractors and four mobile phases were assayed. The run and dried TLC sheets were developed by immersion in an anisaldehyde solution.
