This article deals with the controversial problem of tradition and modernity in Francisco Suárez' political thought. Specifically, the paper approaches Suárez' position concerning one of the main subjects in the field of classical and scholastic political philosophy, i. e. that of the origin of political power as posited by the so called «theory of translation».
