This paper aims to analyze some discussions about the notion of gender regarding feminist conceptualizations. It is assumed here that gender is a controversial notion that has driven the feminist theory into a theoretical jam.The uses of gender under the idea that we are in a particular situation facing patriarchal domination will be mapped. The patriarchy is deeply changed in this context, where neoliberal consensus and capitalist domination keep rising. The changes in the material conditions of existence, the increasing inequalities together with the simultaneous subordination of politics to economy plus the gap observed between theory and practice, have sensibly modify the theoretical and political feminist field. From this departure point it becomes necessary to revise and redefine some crucial theoretical notion like the one of gender that at the moment lay in a crossroad of many political and theoretical debates, while at the same time is subject to linguistics difficulties and the risks inherent to translation.
