Resumen

FRIASE, Geneviève. Distant from gender. Estud. filos. práct. hist. ideas [online]. 2007, n.9, pp.43-56. ISSN 1851-9490.

The first point to be considered is the issue of vade mecum, that baggage that must be taken with us to gain access to the object "differences between sexes". In terms of the epistemological demands, i.e. the ways of thinking, we must acknowledge that the classical tradition has not been able to define this object. This vade mecum is made of two elements: the identification of obstacles and impediments for thinking (in the spectrum that lies between opinion and concept) and the collection of tools that we need (classical or new concepts: gender, transdisciplinarity). The following point is the possibility to think about the notion of "controversy". The controversy between the sexes contains in itself the expression of the conflict both at the ontological level (existing beings and qualities, the sex as a noun, and the masculine and feminine as adjectives) and at the political level (the aporethical question of identity and difference, and that of liberty and equality as operators) The crossroad between the ontological and the political levels is then what imposes on us the need to think about the differences between the sexes as an empty category.

Palabras clave : Difference between sexes; Sexual difference; Gender; Complaint; Process; Controversy.
