Abstract

OLALLA, Marcos. Civilization and Barbarism: The role of the intellectuals in the Centenary's Argentina: J. Ingenieros and R. Rojas. Estud. filos. práct. hist. ideas [online]. 2009, vol.11, n.2, pp.43-54. ISSN 1851-9490.

The use of civilization and barbarism categories literary and scientific Latin-American speech show a particular examination of the modernizing project at the end of nineteen century and the beginning of twentieth century, as well as the learned role in this. We analize that use in Sociología Argentina by José Ingenieros and La restauración nacionalista by Ricardo Rojas books. We match their positivistic and spiritualistic perspectives so as to point out specific and common features in their characterization of intellectual intervention in public sphere.

Keywords : Civilization; Barbarism; Modernizing project; Learned role; Positivism; Spiritualism.
