Abstract

LIDA, Miranda. Una Iglesia a la medida del Estado: la formación de la Iglesia nacional en la Argentina (1853-1865). Prohistoria [online]. 2006, vol.10, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-9504.

This article studies the process of formation of the state Church in Argentina, in parallel with the process of nation-state building during the state organization period. The creation of dioceses and archdioceses responded to a political project directly related with debates about the nation-state building and the problem of federalism. Thus, the role played by the argentine nation-state in the construction of the argentine Church was more important and determinant than the influence and the power of the Saint Siege, even in an era of romanization

Keywords : Argentine Catholic Church; Relations with the Saint Siege; Dioceses; Archdioceses; Nation-state; Romanization.
