This essay begins with a review of the book about Recent History compiled by Marina Franco and Florencia Levín in order to argue subsequently some problems relative to the formation of this speciality or academic discipline. It is based on the discussion of three topics: the relation between recent history and social trauma, the possible innovation in historiography and his statute as a field, discipline or speciality. The essay ends up by claiming the presence of a stronger political weight in recent history as compared with other historical approaches and proposing an open perspective concerning its summit
