Abstract

LANTERI, Sol. ¿Una frontera bárbara y sin instituciones? Elecciones y clientelismo en la formación del Estado provincial durante el gobierno de Rosas. Prohistoria [online]. 2009, vol.12, pp.15-40. ISSN 1851-9504.

The article analyses the implications of the electoral practices in the Buenos Aires south frontier during Juan Manuel de Rosas government, by the case of study of Azul and Tapalqué. We study the legitimacy given through the vote by the rural society and the exchanges and counterparts generated in between, through a quantitative and qualitative exam of the socio-ethnic and economic profile of the voters, the scrutinizing tables and the changes and continuities of the different temporal joints. Pointing out the importance of the frontier in the political-institutional organization of the provincial state and the articulation between rulers and governed during the period, we tint the traditional clientelar thesis supported in the exclusive use of coercion, the monopoly of the resources or the preeminence of the great owners in the rosista power structure.

Keywords : Provincial state; Rosismo; Elections; South frontier; Rural society; Reciprocities .
