Abstract

GOMEZ, Fernando. Las Fiestas Mayas y la construcción de legitimidad en Buenos Aires (1811-1836): Del día de la regeneración política a un acto de orden y dignidad. Prohistoria [online]. 2013, vol.19, pp.73-93. ISSN 1851-9504.

From their first celebration in 1811 the Fiestas Mayas aroused in Buenos Aires the general participation of the population. Throughout the first half of 19th century, the different authorities who organized the festivity tried to make it turn into a symbol making the construction of political legitimacy possible through the transmission of its ideals and premises of government. In this way, the Fiestas Mayas were consolidated as a culminating moment in the festive calendar of the city, restoring an identity relation with 25 May to last until the present time
