Abstract

AZZOLINI, Nicolás. Democracy, Universal Suffrage and Yrigoyenismo: An Essay on the Historiography and the Political Argentine History at the Beginning of the 20th Century. Prohistoria [online]. 2014, vol.22, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-9504.

In this article we explore the debates about democracy in the early 20th Century in Argentina. Particularly, we analyze the discussions over the legitimacy and continuity of the democratic system in the wake of the electoral reform of 1912, the centrality of the yrigoyenismo in these discussions, and the tensions inherent in the concept of universal suffrage. We understand that the historical reconstruction of the democracy concept leads to revise the beliefs and presuppositions that marked the path of the Argentine historiography during the last decades
