Abstract

WASSERMAN, Martín L. E.. Notarial Intermediation in Economic Interaction: Confidence, Information and Connections in Early Buenos Aires. Prohistoria [online]. 2015, vol.24, pp.69-100. ISSN 1851-9504.

The notaries of the Spanish American cities of Old Regime exercised an active role in shaping the dealings formalized by them, such as loan commitments. This article advances on the central aspects of this active function: mediation and contractual informational intermediation. Their role allowed treatments without the condition of relational proximity between creditor and debtor, putting aside the participation in the same environment of sociability as a mean for reputational sanction mechanisms

Keywords : Notaries; Compadrazgo; Credit; Buenos Aires; XVIIth century.
