This article is an introduction to fundamen­tal political science paradigms and concepts. It argues that the path initiated by its founders as well as the new categories that are adequate to the dynamics and particularity of contemporary facts demand an interaction between new and old categories of analysis. It therefore reviews theconcepts of order, domination, state, civil society, political regime, political system, government and governability. The critical analysis of these concepts manifests the comprehensive scope and productivity of the different approaches in terms of the relations with socio-political processes and historical dynamics.
