GARRIGA ZUCAL, José. Del "correctivo" al "aguante": Análisis comparativo de las acciones violentas de policías y "barras bravas". Runa [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.1, pp.39-52. ISSN 1851-9628.
In these pages we discuss violence as a resource, comparing two ethnographic investigations: one among the members of what is commonly known as a hooligan gang -barra brava- and the other among members of the police in the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). We argue that violent actions are resources that actors use as a form of group aggregation and to construct social ties. Violence is conventionally interpreted as a depreciated action and therefore is invisibilized, hidden or obscured. However, it is an effective action for defining senses of belonging and obtaining forms of group distinction. Thus, through this comparison we examine violence as a resource, as a currency for honor and prestige. In the end we look into the kind of action violence is, and illuminate the response through comparing different uses of violence in the cases analyzed.
