It is possible to recognize the projection of a government policy aimed at transforming the area and tobacco activity in Corrientes (Argentina) throughout the 1970s. Based on a technical authority that it was intended to derive from the expert position of some agents (politicians and specialists), the first measures of that government plan were politically disputed between 1972 and 1976, by tobacco growers grouped into the Correntinian Agrarian Leagues (LAC). By analyzing a heterogeneous documentary and bibliographic heritage, the article explores the discursive dimension of this dispute between the LAC and the provincial and national governments, thus revealing how the imposition of technical interventions -which finally were semantically redefined as development in 1978- presupposed the political destruction of the LAC and the forced disappearance of many of its members.
