This article problematizes the school selection process related to young people who are part of families of Bolivian origin and who currently reside in Argentina. Ethnographic work carried out in school and community spaces in Córdoba and Buenos Aires enabled us to observe the influence of different aspects such as geographical proximity, the educational project and school profile, perceptions of it in family and community environments, aspirations of families and young people and, mainly, the prior assistance of acquaintances and relatives. Focusing on secondary school selection and different types of appropriation by young people allows us to analyze a series of aspects that have been little investigated. Among others, it is worth noting the ways that intergenerational relationships adopt (and stress) and the relevance of intra-generational relationships, as well as the relevance of family and peasant networks.
