This paper thinks on the challenges of ethnographic practice when it comes to do participant observation, an anthropological method par excellence, in situations where individuals or groups are having sex. This works on the basis of two ethnographic experiences: one that took place in filming sets of pornographic -heterosexual, gay and transvestite-films, in the city of Sao Paulo and another in the dark room of a nightclub in men exercising practices homoerotic, located in Rio de Janeiro, in dialogue with other recent anthropological research.
