Abstract

The historian and essayist Rodolfo Puiggrós has been considered one of the intellectuals who tried to unify the discourse of Marxism and Peronism. In Argentina, that task clashed with the dispute over the meaning of the Peronist phenomenon after 1955. Puiggrós' point of view on Peronism makes it possible to interpret some aspects of the post-peronist cultural and political field as well as the dilemmas related to the development of the social and political role of the left nationalist intellectuals. Puiggrós suggested understanding Peronism as a national liberation movement without a revolutionary theory. Not free of tensions, his task had two underlying purposes: on the one hand, the elaboration of a project of social and political transformation that could overcome Peronism and, on the other hand, the assignment of the role of theory producer to the left nationalist intellectual.
