Based on a lecture at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris) which took place during the Bicentenary commemorations of Hispanic American revolutions, this article examines the paths that History has followed as a discipline since mid-nineteenth century, and the place that the EHESS kept in that process.
